Modeling TCP Window Evolution Process with both Discrete and Fluid Models

چکیده
Fluid model and discrete-packet model are two approaches to model TCP, where different loss processes are used in different models. In this paper, we present both a discrete SMP model and a fluid model to model the TCP window evolution process. Loss process is I.I.D. in the SMP model, and is a poisson process with window size dependent arrival rate in the fluid model. Analysis shows that the discrete SMP model approaches to the fluid model as 0 p → , which sets up a connection between discrete-packet models and fluid models. It allows us to understand the relationship between several existing fluid models and discrete-packet models, especially the relationship between different loss processes. In addition, we analyze the impact of maximum window size limitation ( lim W ) to the throughput, and a simple relation between the lim W and average window size ( aver W ) is obtained. Finally, a set of experiment is conducted over the real Internet and in simulation to validate the model. Keywords—TCP window evolution process, SMP, Fluid

Modeling Data Communication Networks Using Hybrid Systems
This paper introduces a general hybrid systems framework to model the flow of traffic in communication networks. The proposed models use averaging to continuously approximate discrete variables such as congestion window and queue size. Because averaging occurs over short time intervals, discrete events such as the occurrence of a drop and the consequent reaction by congestion control can still ...

We present a scalable hybrid systems modeling framework to describe the flow of traffic in communication networks. To characterize network behavior, these models use averaging to continuously approximate discrete variables such as congestion window and queue size. Because averaging occurs over short time intervals, one still models discrete events such as the occurrence of a drop and the conseq...
متن کاملThe Role of radiobiological parameters on Tumor control probability (TCP) in prostate cancer
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluation radiobiological modeling parameters on tumor control probability (TCP) for prostate cancer in three different models. These parameters included α⁄β ratios and cell surviving fraction at 2 Gy (SF2). Materials and Methods: The Poisson, equivalent uniform dose (EUD) and linear quadratic (LQ) models was used as...
متن کاملDiscrete Event Fluid Modeling of Tcp
The bulk of Internet traffic is carried using variants of the TCP protocol. A realistic simulation-based performance study of any distributed application run over the Internet (e.g. reliable multicast) must therefore account for the impact that TCP background traffic has upon application behavior. Because TCP flows are shaped by other TCP flows, it is difficult to model TCP and its impact on ot...
متن کاملModeling TCP/RED: a dynamical approach
Interaction between Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Random Early Detection (RED) gateways can be captured using dynamical models. The communication network is viewed as a discrete-time feedback control system where TCP adjusts its window size depending on whether or not it has detected a packet loss during the previous round trip time (RTT) interval. In this article, we describe a discr...
